In the weeks running up to Christmas, we spent lots of time watching the heart-warming Christmas advert based on the famous children's book, 'Mog's Christmas Calamity' by Judith Kerr. We wrote in detail as well as in the first person, as Mog. After writing first and second drafts then discussing our writing with our peers and editing, we are pleased to be able to show you our final drafts below. We hope that you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed writing!
In Art, we have been investigating and sketching historical pots from Roman times. It was great fun to make our own clay pot using the coiling technique, then in true Roman style, to use tools to etch a pattern onto the outside!
Watch the video to see how it was done!
Today, Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed an action-packed day out in Chester where they learnt all about the fierce Romans! Our fantastic activities included: fact-finding in the fascinating museum; taking part in an informative and interactive workshop then dressing up as Roman soldiers and marching through Chester into a real amphitheater!
Please watch this video to see us in action!
What a fabulous week we have had! In 4LC we have been working to improve our descriptive writing by learning new, exciting adjectives as well as openers to hook the reader in. At first we navigated the ancient 'Epic Citidel' using the app on our iPads. In pairs and using Word Hippo, we were able to generate a super bank of adjectives to describe what we could see, hear, smell and feel in this mysterious, deserted place. Once we had learnt how to take a screen shot of various scenes in the city, we could uplaod them into Skitch where we brainstormed our new vocabulary. To bring it all together, the images were put into a Pic Collage to be used in our books as our very own word banks! These are just some of our word banks below...
It was amazing to read some of the magnificent sentences that were carefully written by 4LC and we really wanted to show these off in a new and exciting way, so we decided to work in small groups of three to create our very own iBooks using Book Creator. We have uploaded these below as a video so that you can read them. Please take your time and feel free to pause as you're reading so that it doesn't skip to the next page too quickly! Watch out for our storytelling pages where we used Splice to video ourselves speaking. We our really proud of all the skills that we have learnt and used to create these books and we hope that you enjoy reading them!
Please take a moment to comment below and tell us what you think! During our reading sessions we have been practising reading poetry using rhyme and rhythm! We have read Spike Milligan's famous poem, On The Ning Nang Nong, and some children wanted to perform for the class. We all enjoyed hearing it and we hope you do too! This week we have introduced our 'word of the day' challenge. It is extremely important that we extend our vocabulary so that we are using exciting and adventurous words in our writing. Why is this important? Well... because you can make your writing so much more exciting by using this ambitious descriptive language and you can guarantee that the reader will enjoy reading YOUR work so much more!
So this week your homework is to use our words of the day in sentences. I have asked you to complete this on paper but I would love to see some amazing sentences written on here also! So copy them into the 'comments' if you would like to share your fabulous work with the world! Have fun! Your words are:Anxious (worried) Apprehensive (nervous) Overjoyed (very happy) Ecstatic (VERY happy) Hastily (quickly)
Our topic this half term is all about the Romans. In English we have made notes about the exciting yet gruesome lives of Roman soldiers. Amazingly, even after a short period of time, we have learnt so much about the lives of these fierce men. Today we have been 'hot seating' as Roman soldiers! Watch the video below to see two of our fabulous children take on the role of a Roman soldier...
During the start of this Autumn Term we will be learning how to use and apply our knowledge of place value. Today they had fun playing 'Beat My Number' against their partner.
Welcome to your new class blog!
Below you will find a game that I would like you to play for your homework this week, which focuses on verbs and adverbs. Leave me a comment to tell me how you get on! Also let me know whether you have learnt anything new during this activity. Enjoy! Remember: When you write your name, type ONLY your first name and the first letter of your surname - ALWAYS remember e-safety! :-) |
